Diriyah Travel Guide: At-Turaif, Bujairi Terrace, Official Access and Visiting Hours
Diriyah (الدرعية) is one of the most rewarding heritage visits near Riyadh. Its principal historical attraction is At-Turaif (الطريف), the UNESCO-listed district associated with the First Saudi State. Nearby Bujairi Terrace offers a place to continue the evening after exploring the heritage site.
What Makes At-Turaif Important?
At-Turaif preserves a settlement of earthen palaces, streets and defensive structures beside the Diriyah oasis. UNESCO recognises its importance for Najdi architecture and the development of settlement in central Arabia.
Look beyond the overall colour of the buildings. The relationship between walls, courtyards, narrow routes and the surrounding landscape helps explain how the settlement worked in its environment.
What to See inside the Heritage District
Use Salwa Palace as a central reference point, then choose galleries according to your interests. The official visitor programme includes the Diriyah Gallery, Traditional Architecture Gallery, Arabian Horse Gallery and Military Gallery.
The architecture gallery is particularly useful before a trip to smaller Najdi towns. The horse gallery adds another perspective on the relationship between movement, identity and regional life. A guided or audio tour can help connect the surviving buildings with the history they represent.
At-Turaif and Bujairi Terrace Have Different Roles
At-Turaif is the historical district. Bujairi Terrace is an adjacent dining and leisure destination. A reservation for a meal and admission to a heritage experience are separate arrangements unless the selected booking explicitly combines them.
For a first visit, allow a substantial heritage session before your evening meal. Arriving only for a view of the illuminated buildings leaves much of Diriyah’s historical value unexplored.
Official Hours and Access
Information checked on 21 September 2026. All times are Saudi time, UTC+3.
| Place | Hours displayed on the official planning page |
|---|---|
| At-Turaif | Daily, 5:00 PM–midnight; last entry 11:00 PM. |
| Bujairi Terrace | Saturday–Tuesday, 9:00 AM–midnight; Wednesday–Friday, 9:00 AM–1:00 AM. |
The official FAQ displayed different At-Turaif hours during this review. Reconfirm the selected date through the official visit-planning page and its booking links before departure.
The planning page also advertised complimentary Bujairi access from 1 May to 30 September 2026. This is a dated offer, not a permanent admission policy.
Arriving and Continuing Your Trip
Use the official arrival map because the website lists road diversions associated with development work. For visitors requiring wheelchair support, contact the destination before arrival to discuss the intended route.
Continue with historic Riyadh or compare the architecture with Ushaiqer and Shaqra.
